Absence from Neopet
Question: What happens to all of the Neopets whose owners go away for a long time? Couldn't they be put up for adoption? ~shenmashiai
TNT: After a (very) long time they will eventually be purged with the account, so that the names can be used again. The Neopets are't placed in the Pound.
It's in the News today. (April 26,27)
Pound Update - *Holds up hand to quiet everyone*
We will put the pound back up on the site on Monday.
We have changed the pound a bit so we are giving everyone a chance to check out the Pound FAQ over the weekend.
We are very excited about this and we know that you are too! :)
The Neopian Pound
Welcome to the Neopian Pound.
This is where kind-hearted souls can find the perfect pet,
often far smarter and much better behaved than the younger pets.
Alternatively, cruel irresponsible owners can leave their unwanted pets and
hope that someone will eventually come along and care for them.
Select Adopt or Abandon by clicking on the appropriate desk.

Neoquest Question.
Question:
Hey TNT, do you guys normally delete things like Neoquest data when it's left alone for too long? Ages ago, I played Neoquest 1 with my Kyrii suspicious_joey and stopped when I acquired a certain avatar, but now over a year later I've found my game's been deleted and I've had to start again totally from scratch! (This time I'm playing on lupine_canine instead). I might have transferred suspicious_joey to my side account and back a couple times during the intermission, but in the past that didn't effect it, so why should it now? ~pacmanite
Answer:
Mr. Insane has informed us that Neoquest games that have not been touched for a year are purged from the system. If you have a game you don't want to lose, we recommend you make a move every once in awhile to keep the game going.
Pick Your Own:![]()
Question:
Hiya, TNT. So when playing Pick Your Own, is it only possible to win common berries, dung, old boots, and steel barbs? Because I can get those for, like, 2 Neopoints in a shop. Why in the world should I pay 400? =P Or is there some super secret items that are rare to find? O_o ~hiphopgurl91111
Answer:
Yup, there are some very rare berries you can find if you are ridiculously lucky. Let's see... the Dorkleberry sells for nearly 50,000 NP at this time, Spoogentberries go for about 85,000 NP, and some are even unbuyable. The Aquaberry alone is in the millions! So go out and pick those berries! *points heroically*
The Pound may be back soon:
Question:
'Allo poppets. I know you must get hundreds of complaints and questions on the same subject weekly, however, I find it necessary to ask in order to clear my conscience. Is there any hope of getting the Pound back? If so, do you have an estimated date? I know you guys are busy, but many Neopian players such as myself are starting to give up. Thank you for your time and everything you've been doing for all of us players! We complain a lot, but it's really amazing all that you do to keep this a free site. ~willaim000
Answer:
Don't give up on us! You guys might be enjoying a fancy new Pound sooner than you think! Don't tell anyone, though. It's a secret. /nod
Plot related question:
Question:
I have been busy in the Battledome for the latest plot. So, when the scores came out I hoped I would get a bit of credit for this, at least enough for an avatar or a site theme. But I didn't get any points at all. Some people say this is because I didn't participate in the puzzle. Why is this? It seems kind of unfair to me. ~loenatik
Answer:
Players had to complete at the very least the first puzzle step in order for their participation in the plot to register. If you don't do this, we can't track your scores, including any Battledome participation. Please be aware of this for future plots. The first step is generally extremely simple, so that everyone can participate to some degree.
Free NP Qiveaway:
Question:
Is it true that there was once a one billion Neopoint giveaway, a looong time ago? Who won it, and will there ever be something similar? ~excessives
Answer:
Yup! That happened waaaaay back in December of 2000. Of course, it was split amongst 2,000 winners, so everyone only got 500,000 NP each. Though back then, that was *a lot* of Neopoints. We currently have no plans to do it again. We already have enough Neopoints in the economy. :)
Question: Ok, TNT. I really really don't want to be frozen. On this one website, basically it's set up so that it links to hundreds of "sponsored" pages, which pay different amounts of Neopoints. All you have to do is click and the website puts the sponsored pages up as an image, saving you time from clicking on them manually. Fifteen minutes or so later, NP from all the sponsor clicks are added to your account. Is this cheating? Please help me! ~unigirl264
TNT Answer: Umm, yes. It's the same concept as if you were using some sort of program to visit all the dailies for you. This is not allowed AT ALL and is obviously not the way we meant for you to go about visiting sponsor links. Anyone caught doing this will be frozen. -_-
From Editorial Issue #309:
Q: Okies, quick question. I have a Neopet that I zap regularly with the Lab Ray. I have wearable clothing on this Neopet. If I was to have an article of clothing on a Neopet that could not be worn on another Neopet, would it then be unable to be zapped into a Neopet that can't wear that item? Please, I need to know before I spontaneously combust.... ~psychopoet_srt
TNT A: The Neopet would be zapped and would indeed change, but the item would not show up on the new Neopet. Rather, in would end up in your closet with all the other wearable items.
This is what I know.
This is my friend's pet. You can't get this anywhere except by the way she did it. What she did was first painting her Draik with a Christmas Paintbrush. Then she paints it again with a Starry Paintbrush. And viola, you get a mixture of clothing on the pet. Cool isnt' it?
From Sep 15 Editorial:
**Special Notice of TNT Flubbing +1**
Sooo... there's no great way to say this so we'll start from the beginning. :P
The Support/Monitoring and Content departments had a total communication failure. While we (Content) do site stuff and write the Editorial, they (Support/Monitoring) have the thankless job of enforcing rules and dealing directly with millions of players, and it seems that somewhere along the line one head wasn't aware what the other was doing and... yeah. As such, we unknowingly gave you guys bad information on two rules we clarified here in the Editorial recently - rules we thought were correct but didn't verify. Yes, we know we stink because of it and it's really embarrassing to admit it, but we're happy to shame ourselves if needed to get the proper info out there. So, along with this rambling apology, we'd like to re-clarify some rules mentioned in a couple of Editorials. Here we go:
- "Hell" and "damn" are in fact NOT allowed, despite our big, babbling response in a past Editorial saying it was okay in certain forms. (Acronyms containing the words are also not allowed, just like acronyms containing profanity are not allowed.) While our answer was the rule at one point in time, the words have just been misused too much and the rule had to be changed to disallow them completely. So, regardless of how you use them, "hell" and "damn" are no longer allowed.
- Religious usernames are an outright no-no. Just having a username as such stirs up conversation when other users see it on the Neoboards, so these usernames had to be outlawed (same reason usernames of a political nature were already outlawed, as we mentioned in that same Editorial). This includes all religions no matter how large or small. Users with old, established accounts will be grandfathered in (meaning no worries!). Anything created recently will be looked into and we'll work with players broadsided by this, but anything created from here on out will be frozen.
- This wasn't stated in the Editorial before, but we'd like to clear this up, too. Using the word "sexy" in usernames is not allowed, either. This has been in effect for quite some time, but it's made clear now. Old usernames are again grandfathered in, but usernames of this nature will be frozen if they are created now.
So, that's it. We'd also like to apologise to the Monitors for causing confusion. Despite our attempts to help them out by clearing up the rules every week, we appeared to have made things worse this round. DX Whatever the Editorial has said in the past, they're the ones that need to enforce the rules and it's their call about what is and isn't allowed. We hope this clears things up!
And yes, they've checked other rule clarifications for inaccuracies. ;)
Update from Editorial #310:
Question: Excuse me, TNT. I know you blocked the "h" and "d" words, but are we still allowed to say darn, drat, dangit, etc.? Please answer. ~12372 (piggy) My cat says hi.
TNT Answer: Yes, those (along with heck) won't merit you a warning. But please, for the love of everything, don't post certain words just because you can, or abuse them to the point that the monitors feel they need to take action. It just ruins things for everyone else and makes more rules. *pats kitty*
Question: Hello TNT. I decided to cut to the question instead of telling you about all that "you rock" stuff. My question is: what is up with the ratings? I just noticed that there are ratings on the Neopets' lookups! Are these ratings for only the Neopet lookups or for the Neopet lookup and the Petpage? I like the rating thing, but I do not know if it is for both or not. It doesn't matter if you answer this or not; I will not die from not hearing this! *waits for answer* ~babyjubjub4ever
TNT Answer: The rating is there for others to rate your Neopet, and isn't meant to score either your Neopets' UL or Petpages. We added it for those who do enjoy rating and being rated but have also allowed players the option to turn it off if they aren't into the whole rating thing. Remember though, it's just for fun so don't get too caught up in it. The most important thing is making you and your Neopet happy with the way he or she looks!
I want to share this piece of news from the News Editorial.
What is Google Analytics and why is it trying to access information from my computer when I get on Neopets? When I get on Neopets I always see it loading in the bottom left information bar. ~vedegar
TNT: Google Analytics is a service we use to count visitors to our website and see where they go once they're here. It's been very helpful since the redesign to show us if and when people are getting lost in our navigation, along with helping us see what areas of the site are most popular. So when someone visits the Battledome, for example, this service logs it. We're then able to go and see how many people used the Battledome this month, which makes us realise we need to release the next Defenders of Neopia Series 2 challenger. *facepalm*
It's very standard web analytics software, which is used by many, many websites. It in no way accesses your computer, nor does it personally identify you in any way! It's basically like a very sophisticated web counter. :)
My thoughts:I have always wonder what this google analystics that I see so often. Hmmm.... what's your thought? I wonder if this is how they track our account. Like how they can find out if you cheat or not?

Today is randomly themed ... Purple Day!
And TNT said:
If you're really smart, or just darn lucky, you may just stumble upon the latest Neopets site theme.

This is what they are talking about:

To get this sidebar, you have to visit a purple Neopet with a purple petpet, like this one HERE.
To get the Purple Theme, go to your Site Preference and change it to Neopet Purple
Q: Dear TNT, I was playing Whack-A-Kass and I noticed that the bat was unlocked, even though I didn't remember unlocking it. I sent my score and it worked. I then realized that, on the "Furthest Whack," it said 883, but on my High Scores Table, it said 300(ish). It then changed to 532 because of the sent score. I quickly stopped playing the game in case it was a glitch. I then told my sister, and it turns out her high score was 883! I also cleared my computer's cookies but the "glitch" remained. Can you guys fix this or look into it? Thanks! ~sockmonkeygal
TNT: Whack-A-Kass is a little bit (wait for it... wait...) wacky, in that the farthest hit/available bat information is stored on your end of things. If you use the same browser, your sister's high score will register in the game window (though not your account). If you want to reset the game entirely, you can click the "Clear markers/Farthest whack" option on the first screen of the game. Even if it doesn't immediately show the change, it does do it. Of course, this will also reduce your sister back to batting things around with bread, since the effect is linked to the browser. If you're using different browsers, this doesn't happen. In the end, though it might be a bit confusing, it's nothing anyone would get in trouble for, since it's working as programmed.
I would like to share 2 piece of editorial from the Neopian Times Issue #299.
Question: I was wondering, is there ever going to be a way that you can play games to earn NC instead of buying it? No offense, but it is a rip off to spend real money for fake cash. x_X Seriously, has anyone? O.O ~bannanamouth
Yup, people have spent real money for "fake" currency before, and we're not the first website to implement such a system. But to answer your first question: no, we have no intention of offering ways for people to acquire Neocash other than real-life money. (The last thing we want to do is allow people to buy their way through the game of Neopets.)
TNT Answer: Also, though many of you may hiss at people that "pay for pixels," they are helping to keep the site free for you, so please don't harass them for you not agreeing on how they spend their money. To them, obviously, it's not wasteful and they enjoy it. They are entitled to that opinion. On the other side of the coin, anyone "rubbing it in" that they are supporting the site (via Premium or the NC Mall) and therefore think they are a superior Neopian because of it is just as bad. There's no need to make a fuss either way. Everyone has their own opinions, and one is no better than the other.
Question: Hi! I'm really not trying to complain, because I know you have put a lot of hard work into making the site better. =) And I think we all appreciate it. However, I (as well as many other people) have noticed that you have been adding a lot of new features lately, when there are already so many problems that need fixing. The Pound has been down for months, the Petpet avatars don't work, the new Neopet pictures at the Rainbow Pool haven't been updated, and I know a lot of people have been getting "page missing" errors a lot. I know that many of us would really appreciate it if you could try and fix those problems (as soon as you can get around to it, that is). ~teme_la_pinguina
TNT Answer: Trust us, we're just as frustrated about it all as you all are. We can honestly tell you guys that we are working like nuts trying to get everything done, but alas, we're only human (well, except for Lawyerbot). There are people working 12-14 hours a day (in case you aren't aware, a standard work day is 8 hours). These are real people who are doing their job the best they can. They can't work 24 hours a day.
And before it gets asked, no, we can't stop making new content (we have deadlines and goals to meet) and we can't just hire new people. (First of all, it costs more money, and secondly, we can't exactly hire a new programmer and say, "This is Neopets. This is how you make a Neopet. Now, recode the pound by Tuesday, please!") We seriously have not forgotten about all we need to get done... in fact, we have nightmares about it. We're working as fast as we can.
The rest of the editorial are HERE.
I just copy the source from the News Feature page and paste it here and viola you get to see the News. LOL. Enjoy

From the Neopian Times Issue 297:
Q: TNT, I was just wondering... why did you implement the "accept or deny" sent items thing? To me, it seemed fine like it was, and now... well, to me, it just sorta seems like more of a strain on servers for no real reason. Glad to hear from ya!
TNT: There were several reasons for it, actually.
First, scammers and such like to send cheated items to legitimate users in a (generally ridiculous) attempt to frame them. Now, a user can simply deny any suspicious items and have no fear of accidentally profiting off such wares.
Also, it stops users from maliciously spamming other accounts with items like dung to clog up their inventory.
There are also users who like to send unwanted or suspicious items, then activate the Neofriend only barrier or self-freeze to prevent the item from being sent back. (Why, we're not quite sure, but they do it.)
All in all, it gives everyone more control over the items they receive, which is better for everyone.

Yap, today is Petpet Appreciation Day. I have absolutely no idea what you do, or what will happen. Do you play with your petpet? What do you have to do to show you appreciate your petpet?
In today's News, it says:
Today's news is proudly sponsored by the Petpet Protection League, who have declared it to be Petpet Appreciation Day!
So who is the Petpet Protection League?
The PPL reward Neopets for owning their Petpet for a long amount of time (and never stopping playing with them!) Each week they select a Petpet and award the owner 10 NP for every day they have been owned, and for three years that could be up to ten thousand!
The colour of the Petpet does matter. If they select Pink Kadoatie, and you have a blue one, sorry no NP. However, you can earn the bonus once per Neopet - up to four times!
Once your petpet is zapped by the lab, it is disqualified for this reward because they deem it a form of cruelty to the petpet.

They released a new petpet:

It's a yellow garfir. So cute. I really do need to get one. It's available at the Legendary Petpets.
