Chia Day - Nov 14th

As of October 2006, the Chia is ranked about 28th out of 50+ species. Over 2,630,441 have been created. I even saw a few running around at Suntec City once. LOL.

Chias are generally playful and friendly little alien creatures who love to explore. The name Chia may be related to the Chia Pet-like tufts of hair on top of their heads.

The very first Neopet, Thyassa the Chia, was "born" on November 14, 1999 (the day before the site was officially opened). Chias appear to be great favorites with Neopets staff (Donna has stated that the Chia is her favorite because it's so easy to draw) and are available in a wide array of variations (not available to any other pet species) that look like fruits and vegetables. (For example, the Orange Chia looks like an actual orange instead of simply being orange in color.) More recently, Neopets staff have added the Durian and the Carrot Chia. Chias are well known for being the food of Lupes, and perhaps that accounts for the many colours, or rather, flavours, of Chias.

Famous Chias include:
* Nigel the Chia

Nigel is the commodity stock broker chia. He always charges a 20 NP fee for every selling of stock that you own. He sometimes appears as a random event and recommends a stock to buy. However, whether or not to follow this "tip" is up for the user to decide.

* The Chia Clown

One of the easiest of the battledome challengers and what beginners practice on. Neopedia said he is only 6 years old.

* The Jelly Chia

A member of the Gallery of Evil.

* Florg

Florg the Mutant Chia is a result of one of Dr. Sloth's evil experiments. He has developed a penchant for eating petpets and will search the Space Station tireslessly until he finds some. Florg's petpet appetite is the subject of the game Feed Florg.

* Kasuki-Lu

Kasuki towered above other Chias when he was just two years old. Believing it was his destiny to be a Battledome champion, he spends all his time training. He resembles a sumo wrestler.

* The Highland Chia

An Irish Chia who set out from his home at a young age to seek out worthy opponents. Hates porridge.

* Adee

Adee has been eating too much Ice Cream. Ice Cream for breakfast, Ice Cream for lunch and Ice Cream for dinner. In fact, she has eaten so much that she's starting to get some pretty strange dreams! In her latest one she is trapped within a giant Ice Cream Machine, and must dodge the killer scoops that are trying to hit her... this time the Ice Cream is out for revenge!

* Mika and Carassa

A pair of Chias that live in Terror Mountain and have run a garage sale for years, despite claims they wish to move to warmer climates, arousing some suspicion as to their true motives.

* Chiazilla

A battledome challenger and appears around the Maraquan ruins area. Protector or predator, no one is quite sure...but no Maraquan of Maraqua will dare forget their yearly offerings to Chiazilla.

* Hubrid Nox

He is an evil Chia who despises Lupes and has a variety of weapons named after him, including the Hubrid's Noxious Blade, which does massive damage to Lupes. He is also known for summoning large armies of Ghost Neopets.

This evil, nefarious, scheming Chia makes his home atop a desolate mountain in the Haunted Woods. He lives alone, as he prefers his devilish plans not to be interrupted. Whether its conquering just one city, or the whole of Neopia, whether he uses ghosts, aliens, zombies or mutants - Hubrid has an evil plan for every day of the week.

Hubrid's arch enemy is the Wocky known as MAGAX: Destroyer. In fact their conflict is so famous in the world of Neopia they star in their very own game! MAGAX: Destroyer and Hubrid's Hero Heist

* Thyassa

Thyassa is a Purple Chia who may seem cute and playful, but he is nothing of the sort. Thyassa is the most devious and clever Gormball player ever on the face of Neopia. Ranked #1 in the world, and undefeated in all major championships.

Additional Info: * Thyassa is a real Neopet owned by Donna Williams, and is the oldest Neopet on the website. However, the Thyassa neopet is no longer a Chia, but a Blue Ruki (as of September 2006). It's unknown when this change occured, but it happened sometime before June 2006.

The Chia is a special species. It can be transformed into fruit colours. You can do it throught the Lab, rainbow fountain, or using magical chia pops. Buy a Magical Chia Pop from the Happy Icy Fun Snow Shop, Please do make sure that they are a magical type,
